While I was doing her hair this morning, I let Alyson know that Grandpa wasn't feeling well and didn't sleep well last night because he was coughing and had a stuffy nose.

Alyson: Did he blow his nose?
Me: Probably.
Alyson: With lots and lots and lots of tissues!
Me: It probably wasn't too many tissues.
Alyson: Maybe two or three or one!

This morning, I was telling the girls our plan for Friday afternoon after I get off work.

Me: We'll need to get my car washed.
Alyson, jumping up and down: Yay!
Me: And, we need to go to Target.
Alyson, jumping up and down: Yay!
Me: And, I'll probably need to get gas.
Alyson, not jumping anymore: Awwww, that's no fun.

While I was fixing dinner, Alyson came up to me to show me a teeny, tiny "cut" on her finger. She informed me, "Mommy, this looks like it hurts because it does hurt."

While I was saying good night to Alyson, she was playing with one of her teddy bears named "Hearts". 

Alyson, pretending her bear was talking: Hearts! Hearts! Hearts!

I just looked at her.

Alyson, looking at me: That was Hearts, not me!

Julie came over today for dinner and some play time. Alyson was super excited. She wanted to talk to her Auntie Julie a lot:

"Hi, Aunt Becca!"
"Aunt Becca, guess what!"
"Aunt Becca... I mean Auntie Julie...."

While on our walk, we passed some holly bushes. Tony is allergic, so this of course prompted yet another conversation about allergies, especially since we were around a lot of cats today, and I'm allergic to cats. 

Madelyn: I'm not allergic to any foods, right?
Me: Not that we know of.
Alyson: I'm not allergic to any foods. I'm only allergic to pollen. That's not a kind of food, right?

We went out to dinner tonight at Rio and then walked around the lake. The sky looked like it could start raining at any moment, so we kept an eye on it. When we got around to the carousel, it was just starting to sprinkle a tiny bit. We were able to ride the carousel and then they closed up because it was raining harder. As we were walking back to the car in the steadily increasing rain, first, Alyson complained that she couldn't play on the playground because of the rain. Then, as we were going through the parking lot, she spotted a puddle forming rapidly and tried to jump in it. I pulled her away somehow mid jump. Then, while we were in the car, she told me, "I don't like rainy days because we can't go outside and play. But, I like rainy days because we can go jump in the puddles."

While Alyson and I were out on a walk, we passed by a yard with its gate open. Alyson was quite upset about it and exclaimed, "Why in the world did they leave the gate open? If they have a cat or dog it might get out! That isn't good!"

Alyson and I went for a walk around the block after dinner.
Alyson: Ew! Bird poop! Why is there bird poop?
Me: Because the birds have no where else to go.
Alyson: And they don't have a bird potty!

When we got home today there was a small puddle on the sidewalk from the thunderstorms. Alyson got really excited and yelled, "Oooh! A puddle!" while jumping in it multiple times, but the puddle was too small to create any real splash.

After we got home today:

Alyson: I wish I could have a Popsicle for a snack.
Me, having seen ice cream cups in the trash at Mom's: Did you have ice cream today?
Alyson: Yeah, but that's not the same as a Popsicle, so I can have it.
(Me: No.)

Tony: You know what? I'm going to wear one of your shirts today!
Alyson: Why??? I don't want you to do that!
Tony: Why not?
Me: Aly, not one of your shirts. One of the shirts you just gave Daddy for Father's Day.
Alyson: Ohhhhhh!

We visited two sets of parks today. While we were driving to the second set, we were teasing Alyson about not falling asleep.

Me/Tony: We're almost there!
Alyson: Since we're almost there, we shouldn't fall asleep, right?

Alyson: Do you buy lunch?

Me: I bought lunch today.

Alyson: No, do you buy lunch?

Me: Yes, I bought lunch today.

Alyson: No, you are saying something different. I said buy!

During Madelyn's tball practice, Alyson and I were walking along the paths around the park for something to do. As we were walking away from the basketball courts, a teenage boy holding a basketball ran by. Alyson waved and yelled to him, "Hi, runner!" At least he smiled and laughed a little.

A little later, while we were talking, Alyson asked me, "Why is one hundred bigger than two?"

Three-year-olds are random.

The girls and I went for a walk around the block this afternoon. A motorcycle drove past us and Alyson yelled, "Hi, motorcycle! Bye! I'll miss you!"

We had a slow cooker dinner tonight. I knew that Alyson would hate it from the moment we got home because Ms. Sensitive Nose wouldn't like the smell in the house. She didn't disappoint. We walked in the door and she said, "It stinks in here! I mean, what is that smell?!?"

I had gotten Alyson's pajamas out for her and had them laid out on her floor for her to put them on.

Alyson: You got these out all by yourself, right?
Me: Yeah, I got them out. I am a big girl.
Alyson: You're a grown up, too.
Me: Yes, I'm a grown up.
Alyson: A grown up is a type of big girl, right?

As we were leaving Rehoboth, Alyson saw a lighthouse in the middle of a traffic circle and said, "Hi, lighthouse! I like your windows. I don't think he can hear me."

Second

We were discussing where we were planning to stop for dinner.

Alyson: Where are we going for dinner?
Me: Pickled Pig Pub
Alyson: Pig? We like pig! They eat dirt, I mean mud!

When we were finishing up dinner out tonight, Alyson snuggled up next to me on the bench of our booth. 

Alyson: I love you, Mommy.
Me: I love you, too.
Alyson: I love you even if I'm eating.

While Madelyn and Tony were at Madelyn's tball practice, Alyson and I watered the flowers we just planted outside. Every single time we refilled our watering cans and she put water on a flower she said, "These flowers are going to be so happy because we're giving them lots of water to drink!"

Before bed, Madelyn and Alyson usually say good night to each other while holding and playing with a toy or stuffed animal. Tonight, Alyson came running into Madelyn's room holding a little stuffed terrier puppy.

Alyson: Madelyn, get your ploodo!
Madelyn: I don't have a Pluto!
Alyson: Get your ploodo!
Me, knowing that Madelyn has a poodle puppy similar to Alyson's puppy: Do you mean poodle?
Alyson: Yeah, ploodo!

Yesterday evening, Alyson insisted on making her sandwich for lunch today since Madelyn had packed her lunch as well. Often at Mom's Alyson "buys" her lunch. Basically, Mom makes whatever Alyson wants for lunch, and Alyson "pays" her two pennies that stay on their kitchen table. Today at lunch:

Mom: You have your sandwich that you made.
Alyson: But, I wanted to buy my lunch!
Mom: You can still buy your lunch. Just give me your pennies.
Alyson, happily: Oh, okay!

While waiting for the bus, Alyson was sitting on the sidewalk playing with the grass and dirt. She kept pulling out some grass and putting it in a small pile on the sidewalk. Then, she would add some dirt. Alyson explained to me, "Anything I find I will put in my pie, and it will be delicious because it's pie magic!"

We visited two City parks today. The first was an open space. The second had a playground. In her excitement about going to the second park, Alyson invented a new word.

Alyson: Let's go to the plark!
Tony: Plark? For playground park?
Alyson: Yeah!

The girls were in the playroom playing. I told them that I was going to go outside and do some yard work, but I was wearing flip flops.

Me: I'm going to go outside, but first I'm going to go change to real shoes.
Alyson: Yeah, because those are you pretend shoes!

Little Miss Alyson has a cold, and it's wiping her out. As we were sitting down to dinner, she was about to fall asleep in her plate. I helped her eat a couple bites and she woke up a bit. When we took the girls over to Mom and Dad's for their sleepover so that we can run the Baltimore 10-Miler, Alyson pretty much fell asleep in the car. As I carried her into the house:

Me: You tired?
Alyson: Just a little bit.
Me: No, just a lotta bit.
Alyson, putting her head down on my shoulder and giggling: Yeah, a lot....

Alyson, sitting on the sidewalk: What is concrete?
Me, stomping as I paced on the sidewalk: It's this hard, rock like stuff the sidewalk is made of.
Alyson: Why are you making noise? Grownups don't make noise!

Second

When Madelyn and I were leaving for tball practice:

Madelyn to me as she was picking up her tball stuff and her water bottle: Can you hold my water bottle?
Alyson: You can hold it. You have two hands!
