31 March 2015

After we got home today and I put things away, I sat down on the couch with my eyes closed. Alyson yelled at me, "Mommy! Wake up!"

30 March 2015

Toddler conversation:

Alyson took her little rubber duck and had it give Tony a kiss.

Tony: Your duck just gave me a kiss!
Alyson: Doggie shirt.
Tony: Doggie shirt?
Alyson: Ducky doggie shirt.
Tony: Your ducky is wearing a doggie shirt?
Alyson: Minnie shirt.
Tony: You're wearing a Minnie shirt?
Alyson: Yes. And duck.

(For the record, yes, she was wearing a shirt with Minnie Mouse on it.)

29 March 2015

After she got up this morning, Tony and Alyson were talking about her cupcake pajamas she was wearing. The cupcakes have hearts on top of them.

Tony: What's that on top of the cupcakes? What shape is that?
Alyson: Green? Blue?

28 March 2015

While we were watching "Pocahontas" Alyson was putting her fingers in her mouth and playing with her tongue.

Me: What are you doing with your tongue?
Alyson: I wanna take my tongue out.

27 March 2015

At the last minute, I had to take Alyson to the pediatrician today for an eye infection. While we were waiting for the doctor, she was being silly. We were waiting in the exam room that has a train and train station theme.

First, we started saying our ABCs together after she pointed out the "ABCs" on the train station sign. Alyson's version was:

"A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Next time won't you sing with me."

Then, she was standing up on the exam table, which is the train. Picture the train as an your classic steam locomotive. She leaned over the back of the locomotive where the conductor would be and yelled to the imaginary person inside/behind the train:

"Hello? Medicine please!"

At least she understood why we went to see the doctor.

26 March 2015

Alyson has a little cut on her thumb that is almost healed, but she keeps insisting on having a bandaid on it. After we came inside from playing today, she insisted that we put another bandaid on it after we washed hands. When Tony got home, she excitedly stuck her thumb out at him, and said, "Boo boo sticker! See?"

25 March 2015

Alyson got her clothes out this morning while I was getting dressed, but I thought she had only picked out a shirt. Then, she went into Madelyn's room to bug her for a bit. When she came back out into the hall:

Me: You gonna pick out your pants and socks?
Alyson, indignantly pointing into her room which I couldn't see from our room: I did! See?

24 March 2015

Excitedly talking about using the potty after lunch today:

"Grandpa clean my butt up!"

Monday, March 23, 2015

23 March 2015

Alyson admitted that she was tired on the way home today. Then, before dinner, she tried to convince Madelyn to go to bed early.
Alyson: Mana (Madelyn) go bed early?
Madelyn: No! I do not want to go to bed early!
Alyson, begging: Please?
Madelyn: Nnnnoooooo!!!!!!!

22 March 2015

Multiple times today, the conversation in the car would go something like this while stopped at a red light.
Alyson from the backseat: GO!
Adult in the front: We can't. The light is red. (Or: There are stopped cars in front of us.)
Alyson: Why?
Adult: It's the rule. (Or: Physics says we can't be in the same place as other cars.)
Alyson: Oh....

21 March 2015

Madelyn opened her string cheese at lunch all by herself. Alyson was impressed:

"Madelyn did it! Good job, Madelyn! Good job!"

(Madelyn's response: Um, yes, I opened my string cheese....)

20 March 2015

First

While I was getting dressed this morning, Alyson was sitting on the bed watching. I got a pair of socks out from the basket of clean clothes and put them on the bed.

Alyson: Two?
Me: Yeah. How many feet do I have?
Alyson: Nine!
Me: No!
Alyson: Two?

Second

While watching the Maryland/Valparaiso game, Madelyn was asking lot of questions.

Madelyn: Does any basketball team get a trophy if they win?
Alyson: ME!

19 March 2015

While cuddling before bed, Alyson started being silly (as usual). She stuck her tongue out and started panting. Then, she explained, "Me doggy. Stick my tongue out!"

18 March 2015

While they were playing after we got home:

Madelyn: Great saver, animator! Get it?
Me: No.
Madelyn: Aly, do you get it?
Alyson: Uh huh.
Madelyn: Really? Nonsense and you get it?

17 March 2015

After dropping Madelyn off at school and on the way to Grandma and Grandpa's to drop Alyson off, Alyson was telling her daddy about her upcoming day at "work":

"[Indistinguishable] broken. My work. Grandpa fix it."

Monday, March 16, 2015

16 March 2015

This morning while I was helping Alyson get dressed, she was being whiny and didn't want to get dressed.

Me: It's time to get dressed.
Alyson: Why?
Me: Because you have to go to Grandma's.
Alyson: Why?
Me: Because Daddy and I have to go to work.
Alyson, sounding exasperated: Again?

15 March 2015

Alyson now has a cup like Madelyn's to get drinks from Starbucks, but it is a different color. She got to use it for the first time today. When we were at home eating breakfast, Madelyn was going on and on about Alyson's new cup.

Madelyn, pointing to the dark pinkish-purple part that closes the spout: Is this pink or purple?
Me: It's kind of dark pinkish-purple.
Madelyn: Well, I'm going to call it purple. (While pointing to each part of the cup) It has pink and blue and purple.
Alyson, suddenly and shaking her head: Purple on it no!

14 March 2015

We were getting ready to leave our playdate this evening, and Alyson had finished putting on her shoes. She went to the front door and was about to try to open it.

Alicia to Alyson: You need your coat, silly!
Alyson: Oopsie!

13 March 2015

Today at Mom's I was sitting on the couch before we got ready to leave. Mom was sitting to my right with a pretty big space between us. Alyson was standing there combing her grandma's hair and playing with her. Suddenly, Madelyn, who had been laying on the floor watching TV, got up and sat next to me to cuddle. Alyson realized that she was there and yelled in jealously, "No! Me sit there!" She did end up sitting on the other side of me and cuddling as well.

12 March 2015

As we were finishing up dinner, Alyson started getting cranky. Her mood changed quickly when Tony tried to cheer her up.

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

11 March 2015

While Tony was getting her ready for bed:

Alyson: Daddy ducky silly.
Tony: You mean Daddy is a silly goose?
Alyson: Yeah!

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

10 March 2015

Alyson's slippers were next to each other this morning, but facing opposite ways. While she was standing she put the one that was the right way in front of her on, then walked around in a circle to stand behind the other one to put it on. As she walked around, she sang that she had to, "Turn around in circles and circles."

Monday, March 9, 2015

09 March 2015

After going down for bed, and throwing a fit in the process, Alyson could be heard babbling over the monitor. It sounded something like, "No shirt. Meet the bishop. Have a cookie. Daddy have a cookie."

08 March 2015

The girl loves her swim class:

Me, after Alyson's first push off the wall to glide: Do you want to do it again?
Alyson: Yeah!!!!
Me: What are you going?
Alyson: Gllliiiiiddde.....

07 March 2015

Undoubtedly from some TV show, the girls have started stacking their hands on the table, counting, lifting their hands above their heads, and yelling "Teamwork!". One of today's renditions:

Madelyn, after they stacked their hands: On the count of ten, teamwork! One, two, three...
Alyson: TEN! Teamwork!

06 March 2015

Alyson was fussy all day today. For example, she fussed and cried the entire time Tony changed one of her diapers because Mommy didn't do it.

Tony, when he was finished: There. Was that so bad?
Alyson: YES!

Thursday, March 5, 2015

05 March 2015

While watching Big Hero 6, Alyson copied just about everything her big sister did. If Madelyn laughed, Alyson laughed. If Madelyn said, "Wow!", Alyson said, "Wow!". If Madelyn asked, "What's happening?", Alyson asked, "What's happening?". If Madelyn put her hands up over her mouth in shock, Alyson put her hands up over her mouth in shock. Oh, and Alyson got down off the couch to dance to "Immortals" by Fall Out Boy. ;-)

04 March 2015

(There are sort of two Alysonisms in this.)

Alyson, looking at a dog statue: Arse! Arse! Arse! (Arf! Arf! Arf!)
Me: What says "arf"?
Alyson: Madelyn.

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

03 March 2015

First

Madelyn: Aly, what color is milk?
Alyson: Moo.

(Pretty sure Alyson was actually saying "blue" because Madelyn's milk cup was blue, but it definitely sounded like "moo".)

Second

Me: Alright, who's ready to go to bed?
In unison, both girls raised their hands and excitedly yelled: ME!!!!

02 March 2015

Never know what is going on in the mind of a toddler. When I got up to go fix dinner today, I grabbed my fleece because I was a little chilly.  As I was putting it on, Alyson pointed to me and very angrily yelled, "No! No! No!" Not sure what was wrong with my fleece. I put it on anyway and she seemed okay with it.

01 March 2015

First

Alyson was very excited to go to swimming class again today. She wanted to get into the water and play as soon as we got there. Then, when it was time to move from the really shallow end of the pool to the deep end:

Me: Are you ready to go to the deep water?
Alyson, trying to jump up and down excitedly in the water: Yeah!

Second

While I was taking a shower after getting back from running at the gym:

Madelyn, to Tony: How long is Mommy going to take?
Alyson: Hours! Hours! Hours!
