30 April 2016

Tony and I were talking about the RoadID app randomly loosing my phone's GPS signal while I was out running.

Me: Yeah, I've had it happen when you're out running. Then I just open Find My Friends instead even thought it isn't quite as good.
Alyson, in shock: Huh?! You have friends?!

29 April 2016

On the way home from Mom and Dad's today, Alyson was talking about who are adults and who are kids.

Me: Can I be a kid and not a grown up?
Alyson: No! You can't shrink!

28 April 2016

During dinner:

Tony: Alyson, what did you do at Grandma's today?
Alyson: I watched TV. And, we pretended to eat a hammer, then we got an x-ray, and then we had an operation!

27 April 2016

First

With lunch, I gave Alyson some carrots cut up matchstick style with some other veggies. I had leftover roasted baby carrots in my lunch. When I sat down at the table with my food, Alyson looked at my plate and asked, "Why do I have baby carrots and you have grown up carrots?"

Second

Alyson was coloring in a coloring book about when to call 9-1-1. She showed me a page in the book because she had a question.

Alyson: Mommy, how'd that tree get in the window?
Me: That's supposed to be fire.
Alyson: Nnnoooooo......

26 April 2016

Madelyn scraped her knee while the girls were playing outside this morning. As we were walking upstairs to get a bandaid, Alyson was walking next to Madelyn and said, "I will watch you just in case you get scared." She was so concerned for her big sister's tiny scrape that really didn't even need a bandaid.

25 April 2016

Alyson was helping me in the garden today. While I was weeding and cleaning up the raspberries, she was cleaning up leaves and weeds around the pavers along the raspberry bed. She picked up a few small pieces of crushed bluestone and excitedly showed them to me, "These are little tiny rocks! When are they going to grow up?"

24 April 2016

During breakfast, Alyson started counting all of the items on the table and the people sitting around the table. Her counting was perfect until she got to thirteen: "13, 19, 21."

23 April 2016

First

Madelyn: A staring contest is when you keep your eyes open and don't blink.
Alyson, blinking repeatedly: That's what I am doing!
Madelyn: No, keep your eyes open!
Alyson: Let's have a blinking contest. Whoever blinks first wins!

Second

Part of the joy of having a potty-trained three-year-old is having to go in and wipe her after she goes potty. I walked into the bathroom, where Alyson was sitting on the toilet waiting for me, to find her holding her leg up and kissing all over her leg. I just look at her and she says, "I'm kissing me everywhere!"

22 April 2016

When we got to our neighbor's house to pick up the girls from their dinner playdate, Alyson was sitting at the table while the other kids were playing, eating Cheetos one by one from a big bowl in front of her. She was just quietly and repeatedly putting a Cheeto in her mouth, chewing, swallowing, and putting another in her mouth. The funny thing is that a year or two ago, this kid didn't like Cheetos.

21 April 2016

During dinner, Alyson was questioning the amount of milk in her cup.

Alyson: If Daddy filled it all the way up like this [she pointed to the top] and put the lid on, it would spill out, and we would have a little tiny problem.
Madelyn: No we would have a medium problem. Milk would come out of the spout and we would have a volcano.
Alyson: No, we would have a milkano!

20 April 2016

This morning, Madelyn and Alyson were telling Mom and Dad about getting to see a neighbor friend this Friday.

Madelyn: Were going to Mei Mei's house on Friday for pizza!
Alyson, jumping up and down in excitement: AND I GET TO GO, TOO!!!!!!

19 April 2016

After lunch today:

Mom: Do you want to go to the grocery store with Grandpa?
Alyson: Yes, but only if I get to ride in a car cart.

Monday, April 18, 2016

18 April 2016

While waiting for Madelyn at the bus stop, Alyson picked a dandelion for each of us. When we got home, we put them in water. After Tony got home:

Me to Alyson: Are you going to tell Daddy what you got him?
Alyson: Daddy, I picked you a pandalion!

17 April 2016

First

While eating breakfast this morning, Tony and I were done before Alyson. She observed, "You guys have zero because when you finish your food you have zero."

Second

Tony made the girls "banana splits" for breakfast this morning. It was a banana sliced longways, with vanilla Greek yogurt in the middle, and berries and nuts/granola on top. Both girls loved it, and Alyson exclaimed, "I want to have this everyday! But not for dinner because this is for breakfast."

Saturday, April 16, 2016

16 April 2016

While eating breakfast this morning, Alyson put food in her mouth, closed her eyes, and chewed. Before she put more food in her mouth, she yelled to Madelyn, "Guess what! I can eat with my eyes closed! You wanna see?"

15 April 2016

After Alyson put a toe in her mouth:

Tony: Don't put your toe in your mouth!
Alyson: Why?
Tony: They're dirty.
Alyson: My toes aren't dirty, but they are skin. I love skin!

14 April 2016

While walking home from Madelyn's Tball practice today, we passed a house with white gravel around a tree and shells around another tree.

Madelyn: That gravel looks like snow! Oh, look, there's shells!
Alyson, whipping her head around to see and acting like she saw it first: Oh, look, there's shells!

13 April 2016

While on the way home this afternoon, Alyson was complaining about being hot in the sun shining on her side of the car.

Me: Sorry, I can't turn off the sun.
Alyson: Why?
Me: I'm not powerful like that.

Alyson: And it doesn't have a switch!

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

12 April 2016

Alyson was playing with the Watch Disney Junior app on "her phone" while Madelyn was having her piano lesson. Somehow, she made the app freeze up, but it was still playing the video. She brought it to me for help.

Me: I think you killed it.
Alyson: I would never do that! I'm nice!

Monday, April 11, 2016

11 April 2016

Alyson was being a pain-in-the-butt three-year-old today. She had been whiny and pretty demanding, so your typical threenager. When I was saying good night to her, I was about to eat her up with kisses as usual because she's a sweet and yummy snack, but I stopped.

Me: Are you sweet today?
Alyson, perfectly matching my thoughts: NO!

10 April 2016

Alyson and Madelyn were pretending that a magic potion was turning them into mermaids. When Alyson wasn't a mermaid anymore, she started running around the living room happily yelling, "I'm a hoo-min again!"

Saturday, April 9, 2016

09 April 2016

This afternoon, we took the girls to paint some pottery. I drove there. As we walked out of the place, Alyson asked, "Are we going to take Mommy's car?"

08 April 2016

First

Twice today, Alyson accidentally blew a big snot bubble out of her nose (the joys of sick kids). Both times she pointed to it and exclaimed, "Look! I made a big bubble!"

Second

Alyson started counting today while playing at Grandma and Grandpa's.

Dad: How high can you count?
Alyson: I think as high as the ceiling!

Thursday, April 7, 2016

07 April 2016

Getting a three-year-old to blow her nose is often a challenge. Today we resorted to getting Alyson to try to blow the boogers to something across the room. She actually did really well with that. One time when Tony was helping her blow her nose, she blew really hard, almost frightened herself, and exclaimed, "That was really loud!"

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

06 April 2016

On the way home:

Alyson: I'm tired.
Me: You should have taken a nap today.
Alyson: I was going to take a nap after I played in my room a little bit, but when I was done playing, I didn't want to take a nap anymore.

05 April 2016

First

While at the bus stop waiting for Madelyn's bus to come to drop her off:

Alyson: My hands are cold.
Me: Your gloves are in your pockets.
Alyson, pulling her gloves out of her pockets: Hey! These are my gloves!

Second

While cuddling before bed, Alyson coughed and covered her mouth with her hands.

Alyson: I cover my mouth so that I don't spread germs.
Me: That's good.
Alyson: Madelyn and me have a sick. Germs make a sick. You and Daddy don't have a sick.
Me: And we don't want to get sick.
Alyson: Why not?

04 April 2016

This morning while I was doing Alyson's hair:

Alyson: I'm really super tired. I want to take a nap today.
Me: Okay, just tell Grandma, and you can take a nap.

Sometime mid-morning:

Alyson to her grandma: I'm really super tired. I want to take a nap today.
Mom: Okay. We'll make sure Grandpa knows that for after lunch.

After lunch:

Alyson: NO! I DON'T WANT TO TAKE A NAP!

She did not take a nap.

03 April 2016

Rules don't seem to apply to Alyson. Since neither girl slept well last night, we made them take a nap this afternoon. I then went out for a run, and Tony was outside working on stuff in the yard. When he came in, Alyson was downstairs holding a tissue looking for someone to help her blow her nose. She never made enough noise for Tony to hear over the monitor, and she is supposed to stay in bed until her clock changes to tell her that she can get up. Alyson declared, "I'm done taking a nap even though my clock didn't say morning. I got up and turned it off."

Saturday, April 2, 2016

02 April 2016

We were in the car heading to Home Depot went Alyson randomly asked, "Mommy, when we get home, can we paint my room pink?"

Friday, April 1, 2016

01 April 2016

Madelyn and Alyson were bickering about something, and Alyson was trying to tell Madelyn that she wasn't supposed to do something.

Madelyn: And you are not Mommy or Daddy!
Alyson: Well, I am a grown up, right?
