30 June 2015

Alyson was being a crazy toddler today and was full of mischief.

Alyson, making a small rubber duck "attack" me while I was helping Madelyn with her Legos: Monster! Monster!
Me: What is that? Is the duck a monster?
Alyson, trying to make the duck peck at my side and leg:  Monster Duck!
Me, pulling away: Ack! That kind of tickles!
Alyson, continuing to do it: Tickle Monster!

29 June 2015

While on a walk this evening, Tony was carrying Alyson on his shoulders. They had to walk around a car that had parked in a driveway over the sidewalk (Most annoying thing ever! Please don't do this.)

Alyson: Why go around car?
Me: Because we can't go over it, we can't go through it, and we can't go under it.
Tony and Madelyn together without missing a beat: So we have to go around it!

28 June 2015

When Alyson woke up this morning, she quickly wondered where her daddy was.

Alyson: Daddy downstairs?
Me: No, he's still in bed.
Alyson: Taking a nap?
Me: No, it's early morning and he's still sleeping.
Alyson: Taking a bed?

27 June 2015

Madelyn was telling us which was her favorite character from "Inside Out".

Madelyn: I like Joy.
Alyson: Me like runaways.

I think we're going to need to watch out for this one.

26 June 2015

During dinner today, we were discussing the Supreme Court's ruling today on marriage with the girls (mostly Alyson). Madelyn was telling us who she is going to marry when she grows up. Alyson pointed at me and declared, "Me going to marry YOU!" That one was tough to explain why she can't do that.

25 June 2015

During dinner Madelyn dropped a small piece of her grilled cheese sandwich on the floor. Alyson looked over onto the floor and said with an exasperated tone, "Not again."

24 June 2015

During dinner, we were talking about going to Myrtle Beach at the end of July.

Madelyn: I want to build a sand castle with you, Daddy!
Alyson, pointing to me: Me want to play with YOU!

23 June 2015

First

After Madelyn decided that we were going to have waffles for dinner, a fussy Alyson stated, "Waffles make me happy." At least something would make her happy.

Second

It's hard for two-year-olds to understand that everyone isn't at the same stage in life as they are:

Alyson, very excitedly: Yay! Madelyn go potty! Madelyn go wee wee! Madelyn get m&m's!
Tony: No, Madelyn does not get m&m's. Madelyn is not going through potty training.
Alyson, not understanding: But Madelyn go potty!

22 June 2015

As we were leaving Mom and Dad's today:

Me: Aly, do you have your sunglasses?
Dad: They're in her bag.
Me to Alyson: Do you want to put them on? It's bright out.
Alyson: No.
Mom: Are you sure?
Me: She'll just make it out to the car and complain "Too bright!" and I'll tell her to get her sunglasses out of her bag and put them on.

We opened the door to leave, and Alyson stopped.

Alyson: Too bright!

We got her sunglasses out of her bag, and she put them on.

21 June 2015

All day today, after Alyson copied Madelyn in saying or doing something, Alyson would announce for us:

"Monkey do, monkey do!"

(Oddly, that seems more fitting than the actual saying.)

20 June 2015

During the worst of the thunderstorm, Alyson woke up and was scared. She knew there was thunder, but didn't seem to understand that it was outside. She kept repeating to me, "Me no like thunder in my room!" (It's made cuter by the fact that she pronounces "thunder" as "shunder".)

19 June 2015

While playing upstairs with Madelyn, Alyson pulled just about every book off of the bookcase in her room. Before bed, Madelyn and I cleaned them up and put everything away. Some of the books went on top of the bookcase (bench height).

When Alyson came in from brushing her teeth:

Alyson, pointing to the shelves and the top of the bookcase: Who put all that up there?
Tony: Mommy and Madelyn cleaned up all of your books and toys.
Alyson: Oh.

After I came in to sing to her and put her to bed:

Me: Alyson, who cleaned up all you books?
Alyson: Me!

18 June 2015

As we were leaving this morning, there was a rabbit eating some of the clover in the grass in our yard. Alyson didn't like this very much. She yelled at the rabbit, "Don't eat the flowers, bunny!"

17 June 2015

While eating her pizza for dinner, Alyson started tearing apart her pizza crust. While she doing this, she kept repeating over and over what Tony and I both heard as "Bacon in the ass". Finally, we figured out that she was saying, "Breaking it in half." The joys of toddlerees.

16 June 2015

During dinner, I was trying to get Alyson to at least eat a bite of her beef that she didn't want to touch. After she refused to open her mouth for me to feed her some:

Me: How about if Daddy feeds it to you?
Alyson: No.
Me: What about Madelyn?
Alyson: No.
Tony: What if Aly feeds it to you?
Alyson: No.
Me: Who is Aly?
Alyson: Alyson.
Me: Who is Alyson?
Alyson: Madelyn.

Um... no.

(For the record, I quickly gave up the attempts and she didn't eat any of it.)

15 June 2015

While getting ready for bed:

Alyson: My butt hurts.
Tony: Why does your butt hurt?
Alyson: 'Cause me was playing really hard.

I. Don't. Want. To. Know.

14 June 2015

This morning while deciding what everyone wanted from Starbucks:

Madelyn: I want a strawberry Frappuccino!
Alyson: Me want strappaccino!

Saturday, June 13, 2015

13 June 2015

When Tony was getting Alyson dressed this morning:

Tony: Are you tired? Do you need to go back to sleep?
He closed his eyes and pretended to snore.
Alyson: No! Open your eyes up! Open your eyes up!

Then, later when he was getting her in her pajamas for bed, she was standing in front of her with his mouth opened wide. Alyson was pushing on his nose trying to get him to close his mouth while yelling, "Shut your mouth! Shut your mouth!"

12 June 2015

First

While we were at the zoo, we saw an elephant pushing around a tire hanging from a rope. Alyson begged, "Me want to go tire swing!"

Second

As we were putting away a change of clothes that Alyson didn't need today:

Alyson, pulling a shirt out of her drawer: What shirt says?
Me, reading: Every girl is a superhero.
Alyson: Oh.
Me: Are you a superhero?
Alyson: No, me monkey.

11 June 2015

The girls were upstairs playing. Tony was trying to get them to come outside to see how well they fit in the wagon for a trip to the zoo tomorrow.

Tony: Madelyn! Alyson! Come down here so we can go outside.
Madelyn, coming to the top of the stairs with Alyson just in her shirt: Alyson wants to go training pants-less.
Tony: Alyson, get your training pants and shorts on!

Alyson ran away laughing and wouldn't let Madelyn help her get them on. She just kept running away from Madelyn, and Madelyn would yell for Alyson to come back over and over and over again.

10 June 2015

While I was fixing dinner, the girls were up in Alyson's room playing. All of the stuffed animals from Alyson's crib ended up on the floor all over her room. Before bed, Alyson was going around her room, picking each one up individually, and throwing it back into her crib while saying, "Dis suppose go in dare!"

09 June 2015

Alyson was ready to brush her teeth. Madelyn had her toothbrush ready, but was dancing and playing around while waiting for me to get the Disney Magic Timer app open for her. Alyson tried to get Madelyn ready by urging, "Madelyn, get toothbrush. Brush."

Monday, June 8, 2015

08 June 2015

The girls were playing hide and seek while I was fixing dinner. Alyson doesn't quite understand the point of the game yet, and usually hides wherever Madelyn just hid or is loud and gives her spot away (or both). Madelyn is a good sport about it and pretends that it's really hard to find Alyson even if she knows exactly where she is. While Alyson was hiding and Madelyn was looking:

Alyson from her hiding place: Me here!
Tony: You're supposed to be quiet, Aly.
Alyson: Oh.

07 June 2015

While eating some ice cream with chocolate sauce on it at Grandma and Grandpa's today:
Alyson: Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy! What's this?
Tony: Chocolate.
Alyson: Oh, sticky! Me like chocolate!

06 June 2015

While in the car, the girls were attempting to hum songs for the other one to guess. Very, very clearly Alyson yelled, "SHUT UP AND DANCE WITH ME!" I would be concerned about my two-year-old yelling that, but I know it's a song she knows and likes.

05 June 2015

We were driving along Route 1 in Rehoboth and Alyson was commenting about the different things she was seeing out the windows. While we were stopped at a light:
Alyson, suddenly and excitedly: Big pretzel!
Me, confused: Where do you see a big pretzel?
Alyson: Big, yellow pretzel!
Tony: Where is a big, yellow pretzel?
Alyson, pointing to the "M" on a McDonald's sign: Right there!

04 June 2015

After we had the girls' stuff mostly packed for leaving tomorrow morning, a sleepy Alyson was cuddling on me while sucking her thumb.

Me: Are you ready for bed?
Alyson: No. Ready go.
Me: Go where?
Alyson: Ready go vacation.

Poor girl cried then because it was time for bed, and not time to leave for vacation yet. She definitely likes to travel.

03 June 2015

Alyson's rendition of "Row Row Row Your Boat" this morning:

"Row row row the boat merrily merrily life but a dream. Rock rock rock the boat merrily merrily life but a dream. Eek!"

(What I sing to her:
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

Rock, rock, rock your boat gently to a fro.
Watch out, give a shout, into the water you go.

Row, row, row your boat down the jungle stream.
If you see a crocodile, don't forget to scream. Eek!)

02 June 2015

As I was putting Alyson's diaper on her before bed, she let out a fake scream.

Me, thinking I accidentally pinched her or something: What?
Alyson: Just screaming.

01 June 2015

Madelyn was not cleaning her playroom like she said she would (big shocker there). In the midst of her stalling, Tony and I were threatening to take away her toys. At one point, after getting yelled at for more stalling and not doing what she was supposed to, Madelyn started crying. Alyson went up to her and tried to cheer her up by very sweetly singing, "Twinkle, twinkle...." (Alyson always asks Madelyn to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to her when she's upset.)
