31 July 2015

First

For dinner tonight, we went to one of the local all-you-can-eat Callabash buffet restaurants. Alyson tried some of my crab legs and promptly said, "More crab please!" After I gave her more a few times, she announced, "Me gonna eat all your crab!"

Second

We went for one last walk on the beach this evening to hunt for seashells before packing up to head home (and Alyson literally tried to take the beach home as she put handfuls of sand in her bucket). Before we left the beach, the girls wanted to put their feet in the water one last time.

Me: Say "Bye, bye, beach."
Madelyn: Bye, bye, beach.
Alyson: Bye, bye, beach.
Madelyn: See you next year.
Alyson: See you next year.
Madelyn: We'll miss you.
Alyson: We'll miss you. Good night, beach.

(The whole time, a few elderly people were watching them and smiling.)

30 July 2015

Tony and I were woken up this morning my Alyson yelling and crying at Madelyn, "No! No wake Mommy and Daddy up! No, Madelyn!" Tony went out to the living room to find out that Alyson was upset that Madelyn was playing the music in her new Build-A-Bear. Ironically, Alyson was a thousand times louder than the music.

29 July 2015

After dinner, we went to the pool. While there:

Alyson, to me: Me want to go underwater!
Me: Okay. Close your mouth. I'm going to count to three, and then we'll go underwater. And you'll blow bubbles our of your nose. Ready?
Alyson: Yeah!

Me: One. Two. Three!

We went underwater and right back up.

Alyson: Me want to do it again!

This continued for at least ten minutes before Tony joined in the fun. He would go underwater at the same time and hold up a random number of fingers. Alyson would see what he did underwater and copy it when we were all back above water.

Alyson, getting more and more excited each time and practically throwing herself out of my arms into the water: Daddy do it again! Mommy do it again! Me do it again!

28 July 2015

After we passed the pool on the way to the beach for a walk after dinner:
Alyson: Me want to swim by myself!
Me: You're too little to swim by yourself.
Alyson: Me not five yet.

27 July 2015

Just a couple of the silly things Alyson said while she was overtired. We were out trying to stay to watch fireworks, but didn't make it. Still with an hour and a half to go, we gave up and came back to our condo.

While sitting on Tony's shoulders and resting her head on his:

Tony: Aly, are you a sleepy girl?
Alyson: No. Me wake! Me a wake sleepy girl!

And on the way back to the condo:

Madelyn: I want to sleep in tomorrow.
Alyson: Me want to sleep in, not out.

26 July 2016

This one is more visual. The entire time Alyson was playing in the water at the beach, whether it was with someone holding her to play in the waves or while playing with Madelyn in the tide pools, she had her mouth clamped shut and her cheeks puffed out. Girl knows that ocean water tastes yucky!

25 July 2015

First

Alyson, trying to color a coloring book with crayons in the car: It's not working!
Me: Are you coloring on the inside or the covers?
Alyson, after we hear her flipping some pages: Oh, there we go.

Second

When we finally were able to head to the beach for a bit:

Alyson, pointing to Madelyn as she led the way down the stairs: Follow that Madelyn!

24 July 2015

As soon as we picked the girls up from Mom's today:

Alyson: We go beach now?
Me: No, we have to go home, and you and Madelyn have to finish packing. We'll leave tomorrow morning.
Alyson, disappointed: Oh....

23 July 2015

During dinner, Alyson was trying to avoid eating her food and was instead muttering to herself and playing: "Where my keys for my car? Oh, they're in my pocket! [Reaching where her pants pockets would be if she wasn't wearing a dress] Me don't have pockets!"

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

22 July 2015

During dinner, Madelyn was asking everyone random questions about what their favorite things are. Alyson decided to get in on the action and asked, "What's your favorite animal, daddy? Madelyn?"

21 July 2015

Alyson was playing with her grandpa in the basement today and got upset over something.

Dad: Do you need cuddles?
Alyson: No, only cuddles for Mommy.

(Don't worry, Dad wasn't upset over it. He thought it was cute, but poor Grandpa.)

20 July 2015

Alyson has picked up on the fact that when Madelyn wants to be silly, she sometimes calls me "Melissa" instead of "Mommy". As I was walking out the door this morning after dropping them off at Mom and Dad's, Alyson called to me, "Bye, Nessa!"

19 July 2015

Our rule at dinner is that everyone has to eat at least one bite of everything on their plates. Beyond that is up to the person eating, but everything has to be eaten to get dessert. The girls knew that today is National Ice Cream Day.

Alyson, with food still on her plate: Me done.
Madelyn: Did you want dessert?
Alyson: No.
Madelyn: It's ice cream!
Alyson: Oooh! [She grabbed her plate and ate more food.]

And later:

Madelyn: I don't want to eat this last shrimp.
Alyson, shocked: You no want dessert?

18 July 2015

When Alyson was still sitting at the table but had finished her dinner, she was putting her wrist/arm in her mouth.

Tony: Does your wrist taste good?
Me to Alyson: Tell Daddy that of course it does because you're so sweet.
Alyson: Yeah! Me sweet!

17 July 2015

While out on a walk before bed, the girls were pretending they were characters from Blaze and the Monster Machines. Madelyn was Blaze, and Alyson was Pickle.

Madelyn: Let's Blaze!

Madelyn ran ahead.

Alyson: Let's Pickle!

Alyson ran after Madelyn. Madelyn stopped and Alyson caught up to her.

Madelyn, right before running again: Let's Pickle!
Alyson: Let's....

Alyson stopped and looked confused as she realized that Madelyn had said her line.

16 July 2015

Before we left Mom's, the girls were stalling, and Madelyn decided she wanted to put on a ballet show in the kitchen for her grandma. Alyson came running in and stood next to Madelyn because she wanted to be part of the show as well.

Madelyn to Alyson trying to get her to move: You don't know ballet!
Alyson, with complete admiration of her big sister: You teach me!

Madelyn started her show and Alyson copied what her sister did.

15 July 2015

While the pizza we fixed for dinner was cooking in the oven, Alyson walked through the kitchen chanting, "Nummy pizza in here. Nummy nummy nummy. Good night!"

14 July 2015

Classic:

Alyson asked for more ribs at dinner. I told her to finish her corn and some of her green beans first. After a minute or two, I looked over to her to see how much she had eaten only to catch her trying to hide some corn under her napkin. File this under one of those times when it's damn near impossible not to laugh while disciplining.

13 July 2015

As usual while out for a walk, Alyson was chasing after Madelyn, tripped, and skinned up her knee at the farthest point from home. Tony carried her on his shoulders the rest of the way home. As we were walking:

Alyson, to me up ahead of them: You take care of my knee when we get home.
Me: Yes, I will clean up your knee when we get home.
Alyson: You really are a mommy.

12 July 2015

Tony was tickling and teasing Alyson while drying her off after her bath.

Tony: Are you a silly?
Alyson: No! Me Alyson! [looking around her room] Me not Minnie either. Me not bear either. Me not light either. Me not crib either. Me not mirror either.

Saturday, July 11, 2015

11 July 2015

We say grace as a family before we eat dinner. Madelyn usually says it. Alyson finished her dinner and was getting a cookie as a treat for dessert. Tony handed her the cookie and Alyson asked, "Me have to say grace?"

Friday, July 10, 2015

10 July 2015

For the past few days, Alyson has wanted her hair in braided pigtails, or as she likes to call the style: "cutie pie". As I was getting ready to do her hair this morning:

Alyson: Me want a cutie pie.
Me: Are you a cutie pie?
Alyson: Not yet!

I informed her that she's a cutie pie no matter what.

Thursday, July 9, 2015

09 July 2015

We were talking about Madelyn and Alyson having to take naps while we're at the beach because they will be tired from the beach and staying up later. Madelyn was not happy about this. Alyson is very observant, however, and noted, "Madelyn not very happy when she no take a nap."

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

08 July 2015

Silly toddler logic:

Alyson put her bag on top of her head while in the car on the way to Mom's this morning.

Madelyn: Um, why is your bag on your head?
Alyson, with a tone like "duh": Don't want it on my lap.

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

07 July 2015

After I pulled out Madelyn's second tooth, I showed it to Alyson.

Me: Alyson, do you know what this is?
Alyson: I dunno.
Me: It's Madelyn's tooth!
Alyson, tentatively pointing to her own teeth: Madelyn's tooth? Why?

Monday, July 6, 2015

05 July 2015

While I was fixing dinner, Alyson was following me around with a toy syringe sing-songingly chanting, "Do a shot on your butt! Do a shot on your butt!"

Sunday, July 5, 2015

05 July 2015

On the drive home today, we stopped for a potty break at a Starbucks and also let the girls get mini strawberry Frappuccinos. This conversation was repeated many, many times:

Alyson, sucking on her straw: It's not coming out!
Me/Tony: What do you need to do with it?
Alyson: Mix it!

She would take her straw and use it to poke around in her cup. Eventually she would try to drink it again.

Alyson, excited and surprised: It's coming out!

Saturday, July 4, 2015

04 July 2015

As Alyson walked past Nana and Poppop's dog on her way to her room for bed, "Doggie, good night. Doggie, good night. Good night, Lolly. Doggie no really talk."

Friday, July 3, 2015

03 July 2015

While out for a walk today before dinner:

Alyson to Madelyn who was running up ahead of her: Gonna get you, Madelyn!

Alyson took off running, and Madelyn kept running, not seeming to notice Alyson yelling at her.

Alyson: Madelyn! Stop running!

Thursday, July 2, 2015

02 July 2015

While singing and cuddling before putting her down to bed, I yawned, which caused me to sing part of the song quietly.

Alyson: Why you quiet?
Me: I yawned.
Alyson: Why you yawn?
Me: I'm tired.
Alyson: You take a nap?
Me: No, but I'll go to bed in a little while.
Alyson: You take a nap right here in rocking chair. Close your eyes.

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

01 July 2015

While cuddling before bed:

Alyson, whispering while looking up at Tony while they hugged: Me love you, Daddy.
Tony, whispering back: I love you, too, Alyson.
Alyson: Why you whisper?
Tony: Because you did. Why did you whisper?
Alyson: Want to.
