The English language is hard, especially when it comes to irregular verbs.
Alyson: Do you buy lunch?
Me: I bought lunch today.
Alyson: No, do you buy lunch?
Me: Yes, I bought lunch today.

Alyson: No, you are saying something different. I said buy!
